Woman dies after being run over by tow truck carrying container at Port Everglades

Incident reported hours after man injured by falling container

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A woman died Monday afternoon after she was run over by a tow truck that was carrying a cargo container in Port Everglades.

Sky 10 was above the scene about 3:15 p.m. A tarp was covering the woman's body next to the truck that had one container on it.

Luisa Anderson was driving a golf cart northbound through the Sun Terminals shipping container yard at 4000 McIntosh Road when she collided with a mule truck, which is similar to a tractor-trailer, the Broward Sheriff's Office said.

The 40-year-old woman was then ejected from the golf cart and run over by the truck, deputies said.

The intersection at which the crash occurred doesn't have stop signs or traffic signals.

The incident was reported about 2:30 p.m., just hours after a man was seriously injured when a container flipped over at the port.

Broward Sheriff's Office Fire Rescue spokesman Mike Jachles said the man was taken to Broward Health Medical Center. He is expected to survive.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating both incidents.
