Investigation underway after 11-month-old baby found dead at Sunrise home

Authorities say death does not appear to be criminal

SUNRISE, Fla. – An investigation is underway in Sunrise after an 11-month-old baby was found dead on Monday.

Florida Department of Children and Family officials told Local 10 News that the family is "familiar to the child welfare system," but not in reference to the child that was found dead at the home.

Police were called to the home along the 5800 block of Northwest 19th Street Monday morning.

Police said the baby's death did not appear to be criminal, but the case is still under investigation.

"Every child death is a tragedy and we mourn with this family over the loss of this child. Broward County Sheriff's Office is investigating and we will assist in any way possible," DCF secretary Mike Carroll said.

Details about previous contact with the family was not immediately released.

All child protective investigations in Broward County are conducted by BSO.
