Second man arrested on drugs charges after fleeing from Monroe County sheriff's deputies

Crack cocaine, Oxycodone, heroin found inside cigarette box, deputies say

TAVERNIER, Fla. – A second man was arrested Wednesday, weeks after he ran away from Monroe County sheriff's deputies who were serving a search warrant at a home, MCSO spokeswoman Becky Herrin said.

Francisco Guevara, 37, was arrested Sept. 22 on drug charges after running away from deputies from a home on Beach Road, authorities said.

Detectives said they found crack cocaine, synthetic marijuana, heroin and other drugs inside the home. They also found a gun and ammunition.

According to Herrin, Jeremy Haigh, 40, of North Rock Harbor, also ran from the home and threw a cigarette box toward a canal behind the house.

However, the cigarette box landed on a boat davit instead of in the water, and detectives found crack cocaine, Oxycodone, heroin and drug paraphernalia inside of it, Herrin said.

A warrant was obtained for Haigh's arrest, and he was taken into custody on Wednesday.

He faces charges of fleeing from police and possession of heroin, cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

Haigh is being held in jail in lieu of a $70,000 bond.
