Man arrested after standoff with deputies found hanging in jail cell
Christopher Cox pronounced dead at Florida Keys hospital
KEY WEST, Fla. – An inmate at a Florida Keys jail died early Sunday after apparently hanging himself in his cell, Monroe County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Becky Herrin said.
Christopher Cox, 25, was pronounced dead at 5:08 a.m. at Lower Keys Medical Center.
Herrin said deputies performing their routine check of inmates at the Stock Island Detention Center found Cox hanging by the neck in his cell.
Cox, who was being held on federal firearms charges, was arrested Wednesday morning after a long standoff with deputies in Marathon.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the death.
