POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – Two men were arrested Tuesday in connection with a fatal shooting on Halloween in Pompano Beach.

The shooting was reported at 12:20 a.m. Oct. 31 in the parking lot of the Play-by-Play Sports Bar & Lounge on Cypress Creek Road.

Broward Sheriff's Office deputies said they found Derek Willard, 26, bleeding in the parking lot. He was taken to Broward Health North, where he was pronounced dead.

Dalton Carlton, 25, and Gerald Carey, 26, were arrested Tuesday. Carey faces a premeditated murder charge, and Carlton faces charges of being an accessory to first-degree murder after the fact and possession of marijuana.

BSO spokeswoman Joy Oglesby said Willard was asked to leave the bar and got into a fight with an employee outside the bar. Oglesby said Willard left but returned a few minutes later, parking his car near where Carey and two others were gathered.

Oglesby said Carey went back inside the bar with the men and returned with Carlton a few minutes later. She said Carey shot Willard multiple times as he stood by his car.

Willard ran away, with Carey and Carlton chasing after him, Oglseby said.

Carey fired another shot at Willard before he separated from Carlton, who returned to the bar, Oglesby said.

Detectives believe the shooting was unprovoked.
