Coconut Grove school placed on lockdown during search for robbery suspect

Search for Davonte Fance leads to lockdown at Francis S. Tucker Elementary

MIAMI – A Coconut Grove elementary school was placed on lockdown Thursday while police tried to apprehend a robbery suspect.

Miami police said Frances S. Tucker Elementary School on Douglas Road was placed on lockdown after officers tracked down Davonte Fance, 18, to the Coconut Grove neighborhood.

Police said Fance struck an officer and got away.

A police perimeter was established in the area of Douglas Road between Thomas and William avenues.

Coral Gables police said Fance is believed to be involved in a July robbery. However, a family member told Local 10 News that Fance isn't armed or dangerous.

Students at the school were released to their parents while the search continued.

"I was disappointed that I didn't get a phone call, a text message," a woman told Local 10 News. "The police weren't telling us anything. If my child was a walker, I would be worried that I didn't know."

The lockdown was eventually lifted, and police ended the search.
