Man pistol-whipped during armed robbery in Miami Beach, police say

Robber gets away with victim's cellphone

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A man was pistol-whipped early Tuesday during an armed robbery in Miami Beach, authorities said.

The incident was reported about 3:30 a.m. in the area of Alton Road near 14th Street.

Miami Beach police spokesman Ernesto Rodriguez said a man approached the victim, who was walking south on Alton Road, pulled out a gun and demanded the victim's cellphone.

The victim gave the robber his phone, and the man pistol-whipped him, cutting the victim near the ear, Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez said the gun was discharged the moment the victim was struck, but no injuries were sustained because of the gunshot.

The robber ran away in an unknown direction.
