Boy, 10, found safe after leaving Oakland Park home

Leighton Campbell leaves home during sick day, prompting search

OAKLAND PARK, Fla. – A 10-year-old boy who left home Friday morning, prompting a massive search, was found safe, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.

BSO spokeswoman Gina Carter said Leighton Campbell stayed home from school because he was sick. She said Leighton left his home on South Oakland Forest Drive about 9 a.m. and didn't return.

The boy's father told Local 10 News reporter Andrew Perez that Leighton got mad after his mother told him to clean his room while he was home sick.

Leighton was eventually reunited with his family, who said they were glad that he is home safe.
