Man lights cigarette, then steals motorcycle from Florida Keys home

Neighbor's surveillance video catches thief pushing motorcycle away

MARATHON, Fla. – A man casually lit a cigarette before he drove away on a motorcycle stolen from outside a Florida Keys home earlier this week.

Surveillance video released Friday shows the suspected motorcycle thief lighting a cigarette while standing next to the Honda CRF250 motorcycle outside the home just after midnight Monday on Sombrero Boulevard in Marathon.

The owner told Monroe County sheriff's deputies that two matching motorcycles were parked next to each other in the driveway when he went to bed Sunday night. When he woke up the next morning, one of the motorcycles was gone.

A neighbor's surveillance video captured the thief in the act.

The video showed the man pushing the motorcycle away from the home, apparently unable to start it. The motorcycle was later found in a wooded area on Grassy Key. There were several parts missing, including the seat cushion, front headlamp assembly and left fender cover.

Anyone who recognizes the man is asked to call Crime Stoppers of the Florida Keys at 305-289-2430.
