Man killed in Miami-Dade police-involved shooting, officials say

1 person still at large after incident on West Indigo Street

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A man was shot and killed Friday night in a police-involved shooting in southwest Miami-Dade County, authorities said.

The incident happened in the 10100 block of West Indigo Street.

Police said two officers from the South District of the Miami-Dade Police Department were patrolling the Perrine area at 6:55 p.m. and saw a black Nissan Altima driving erratically. They stopped the vehicle on West Indigo Street.

At some point, the passenger in the vehicle fled. One officer ran after the passenger.

Police said the driver of the car, identified as Jamar Rollins, 21, produced a firearm and the officer fired at him.

Rollins died at the scene. Police said a firearm was recovered, however his relatives told Local 10 News that they don't believe that he was armed.

Both officers involved in the shooting have been with the Police Department for nine years.

The passenger is still at large.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has taken over the investigation.
