North Miami Police: Teen arrested after crashing stolen car against tree

MIAMI – A 14-year-old boy was behind the wheel of a stolen 2013 Nissan Maxima when he crashed into a tree, according to an arrest form North Miami Police released on Tuesday. 

After the Monday afternoon crash at 141st Street and Northeast Fifth Avenue, witnesses said they saw the driver and a passenger get off the car and run away.

A seriously injured boy -- who was about 10 years old -- was left behind, according to North Miami Police Department's Rafael J. Estrugo

"One suspect was taken into custody on the scene," Estrugo said. "The other was taken into custody at Memorial Highway at 145 Street."

The teenage driver was 5-foot, 6 inches tall and about about 225 pounds, according to the arrest form. When police officers questioned him, the teen reportedly said, " I crashed the car."

Police officers said after the teen complained of an injury, rescuers took him to Jackson Memorial Hospital. The teen was charged with a misdemeanor, according to Estrugo.
