SUV crashes into Plantation bakery

Driver tells employee he tried to avoid another vehicle that cut him off

PLANTATION, Fla. – An SUV crashed into a Plantation bakery Friday morning, causing significant damage to the building.

The crash was reported about 7 a.m. at Signature Chayah Cakes, 4070 W. Broward Blvd., just west of U.S. Highway 441.

An employee at Signature Chayah Cakes sweeps the floor after an SUV crashed into the bakery.

According to the Plantation Fire Department, the SUV crashed into the building, but there were no injuries.

"The driver spoke to me," employee Antonio Delima told Local 10 News. "He told me somebody cut him off from that side there, and he tried to avoid the accident."

Lynda Pitts, who owns a beauty salon next door, said speeding and careless driving on Broward Boulevard is a concern.

"Sometimes I can sit at my station and actually see cars go down the opposite side of the street," Pitts said.

The owner of the bakery didn't want to speak to Local 10 about the crash.

Plantation police said the driver wouldn't be cited since he was trying to avoid another vehicle.

The bakery will remain closed Friday as that portion of the building was deemed unsafe.
