16-year-old boy arrested in connection with Marathon vehicle burglaries

Victim's sunglasses found in teen's possession, deputies say

MARATHON, Fla. – A 16-year-old boy was arrested Wednesday in connection with a series of vehicle burglaries that were reported last week throughout Marathon.

Monroe County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Becky Herrin said the boy faces three counts of felony burglary and one count of theft.

She said the teen was found with an expensive pair of Costa sunglasses that were reported stolen from one of the vehicles.

According to Herrin, 18 vehicles were reported burglarized between last Wednesday through Friday in various parts of Marathon.

Surveillance video of a group of apparent burglars outside a victim's home led to the teen's arrest, Herrin said.

Authorities are still searching for others involved in the burglaries.
