Man almost run over during theft of large barbecue grill in West Park

Surveillance video shows Jan. 20 theft of Chef Tally's World Famous Jerk grill

WEST PARK, Fla. – One of two thieves was nearly run over by a box truck while stealing a barrel-style barbecue grill worth more than $6,000, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.

Surveillance video captured the Jan. 20 theft in the parking lot at 2481 SW 56th Terrace in West Park.

BSO spokeswoman Gina Carter said two men pulled a white cargo van into the parking lot and tried to remove the Chef Tally's World Famous Jerk grill, which sat on a trailer. In order to do so, they had to move the restaurant's box truck, which was in the way.

The video showed one of the men working under the box truck when it started to roll backward. The thief barely managed to get out of the way.

The thieves eventually attached the trailer to their cargo van and drove away.

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call the BSO at 954-985-1953 or Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
