Florida man saves bald eagle from jaws of alligator

PARRISH, Fla. – A Florida man undergoing chemotherapy jumped into a pond to save a bald eagle from the jaws of an alligator.

Justin Matthews posted pictures of himself, his friend David, and the eagle after the rescue inside a Parrish neighborhood.

According to Matthews' Facebook post, David waded into the water and pulled the eagle directly from the gator's mouth.

Dave told Matthews he attempted the dangerous rescue because "he couldn't watch America's symbol die."

Matthews was amazed that his friend, who is undergoing chemo for an unspecified illness, made the heroic dive.

Because the eagle couldn't move its legs, it was taken to a veterinarian. There is no word on the eagle's current condition.

"Please say a prayer for David," Matthews wrote. "And the eagles."
