Motorcyclist dies after accident involving limo on Rickenbacker Causeway

Incident happened near Miami Seaquarium

KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. – A joyous day quickly turned into anything but for a wedding party leaving the Miami Seaquarium when their limousine collided with a motorcyclist, who would later be pronounced dead.

It happened on the Rickenbacker Causeway in Key Biscayne.

"Seems to be that it was a group of motorcycles," Miami-Dade police Detective Jennifer Capote said. "Unfortunately, you know, out of that group, one, unfortunately, has died as a result of his injuries."

It turns out off-duty Key Biscayne fire Chief Eric Lang happened upon the crash on the Rickenbacker Causeway, along with a member of the bridal party, who is a city of Miami fire paramedic. They jumped into action.

"I didn't know the guy in the suit (who) was going to a wedding was a firefighter paramedic, but pretty quickly, he told me he was," Lang said. "He told me he worked for the city. I told him I worked for Key Biscayne."

But despite their valiant efforts, the motorcyclist died. Traffic was reduced to a crawl on the causeway. Eastbound traffic was diverted onto the westbound lanes, so investigators could piece together what happened.

"Whatever violation may have occurred, they'll be able to determine that once they complete their investigation," Capote said.
