Tourists reportedly kill Bahamas swimming pigs with alcohol

EXUMA CAYS, BAHAMAS – Many of the famous swimming pigs of the Bahamas have reportedly died after tourists visiting the islands allegedly fed them alcohol.

The Independent reports that seven of the pigs were found dead off the coast of the Exuma Cays.

Swimming with the pigs has been an experience unique to the Bahamas for decades, with tourists traveling to the islands just to take part in the attraction.

The report claims the pigs were given rum and beer.

"The pigs were given the wrong food," Wayde Nixon, the pigs' owner, told the Nassau Guardian.

However, animal experts in the Bahamas are not ready to officially declare alcohol to be the cause of the pigs' deaths.

The Bahamian government has now reportedly banned visitors from feeding the remaining pigs, numbered to be anywhere from 7 to 15.
