FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – When she realized her three cats and two dogs were trapped in her apartment during a fire, a woman ran up the stairs to try to save them.
She didn't know that firefighters had already rescued one of the cats and the two dogs at the apartment complex at 1400 NE 56 St., in Fort Lauderdale.

The neighbors who alerted the Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue firefighters about the existence of her pets on Tuesday didn't know that she had two more cats inside.
Firefighters treated the surviving pets for smoke inhalation.
