Deputies say man spotted on surveillance video

Surveillance video showed a man drive away in an SUV that was parked outside a Dunedin business. There were nine baby parrots in the backseat.

DUNEDIN, Fla. – Florida deputies are trying to identify a man who stole an SUV with nine baby parrots in the backseat.

The Chevrolet Equinox was parked outside a business in Dunedin when it was reported stolen March 2.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, the driver entered the business, leaving the SUV unlocked and the engine running with nine baby parrots in the backseat.

Another customer in the business told the man that someone drove off in his SUV.

Detectives said the thief was captured on surveillance video sitting on the patio outside the business shortly before the theft. He was seen walking over to the SUV and driving away.

The SUV was found the next day in the Lakeland area, and six of the baby parrots were found March 7 by Lakeland police.

Three of the birds remained missing as of last week.
