The city garbage truck crashed through the guardrail on the Seventh Street exit ramp from southbound Interstate 95 on Feb. 15, 2016, and landed in the parking lot of Jose Marti Park.

Miami Department of Fire-Rescue Capt. Ignatius Carroll said the truck fell more than 100 feet to the ground.

Smith was ejected from the truck and was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where he was treated and released.

Surveillance video from inside the truck showed Smith driving on I-95 and appearing to lose control of the vehicle.

Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Joe Sanchez told Local 10 News last March that Smith overcorrected after the truck twice veered onto the left curb.

Smith was cited for careless driving and not wearing a seat belt.
