Rogel Morejon-Soto, 35, arrested months after fire

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A South Florida man was arrested Wednesday, months after a white van caught fire in the parking lot in southwest Miami-Dade.

Police said Rogel Morejon-Soto, 35, is accused of illegally retrofitting the van with fuel tanks containing gasoline.

Authorities were called Jan. 24 to the parking lot at 15355 SW 73rd Terrace Circle after the van caught fire outside the suspect's apartment.

It took firefighters several hours to extinguish the fire.

Investigators determined that the vehicle was illegally retrofitted with two 264-gallon steel-caged plastic totes in the cargo hold.

Police said the van was also equipped with fuel hoses, fuel nozzles and electric pumps, which are used to transport and dispense large amounts of fuel.

Detectives said vehicles are illegally retrofitted like the van typically to steal and transport stolen fuel.

Morejon-Soto faces charges of second-degree arson and possession of a vehicle with an illegal tank and container.
