Deputies urge Pompano Beach residents to secure scooters after string of thefts

Deputies tell owners to use cables, chains to secure scooters

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – Residents of Pompano Beach, particularly in the Harbor Village, Cresthaven and Highland neighborhoods, are being warned of a recent rash of motor scooter thefts from driveways, garages and carports.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office put out an advisory on Wednesday, that said thieves have been breaking steering columns and then "hot-wiring" the scooters before driving off with them.

The Sheriff’s Office is urging owners to use a strong cable or chain and lock to secure scooters to a non-movable object.

They’re also asking owners of scooters to run cables and chains through the scooter’s tires.
