Toddler, uncle shot in Miami Gardens

Both victims expected to be OK, friends, family members say

MIAMI – Friends and family members of a toddler and a man who were shot while in a moving car Sunday afternoon in Miami Gardens said both are going to be OK.

The 2-year-old boy was with his 20-year-old uncle in a car traveling on Northwest 179th Street near Northwest 27th Avenue when a sport utility vehicle pulled up next to them and someone in it opened fire, police said. 

Both victims were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center with non-life-threatening injuries. 

The man had to undergo surgery, and the boy remains in the hospital, family members said.

Police are investigating the shooting and said they are searching for a large Infiniti SUV, possibly with North Carolina or South Carolina plates.
