Fire at Sunrise shopping center sends heavy smoke into air

Fire wall "did its job" in preventing fire from spreading, firefighters say

SUNRISE, Fla. – Sunrise Fire Rescue was called to a  shopping center on Monday to put out a fire that sent heavy black smoke in the air.

The fire took place at about 6:20 p.m. in  a shopping center near Northwest 44th Street and 77th Terrace.

A concrete fire wall that separated the business from the shopping center  "did its job" and helped contained the fire, Battalion Chief Chris Sorrentino said.

One man who works at a nearby auto repair shop was injured due to the fire and taken to Florida Medical Center.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
