National Weather Service issues high risk of rip currents alert
Rip current alert in effect until Monday morning
MIAMI – Meteorologists warn of a high risk of rip currents along South Florida beaches from Saturday to Monday, according to the National Weather Service.
Local 10 News meteorologist Trent Aric said we have a strong east wind until Monday.
Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away from shore. They can sweep even strong and experienced swimmers out to sea.
About 100 swimmers drown every year after getting caught in rip currents, according The National Ocean Service.
A man drowned on Friday night in Miami Beach and another man drowned on Saturday in Key Biscayne.
