High school bank robbery suspect apprehended after fleeing house arrest

Austin Puppo back in custody after cutting off ankle monitor, PBSO says

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – A Boynton Beach Community High School student accused of robbing a bank is back in custody after he cut off his ankle bracelet Wednesday and fled from house arrest, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

Austin Puppo, 18, was arrested in February on charges of armed robbery and making a false report about planting a bomb or explosive.

Puppo had been on house arrest since his arrest, but sheriff's spokeswoman Teri Barbera said Puppo cut off his monitoring device Wednesday and walked away from his home in the 14500 block of White Jade Terrace in Delray Beach.

Barbera said Puppo was apprehended Friday morning. She did not say where he was found.

According to a police report, Puppo robbed a Wells Fargo branch on Boynton Beach Boulevard in February, handing the teller a note claiming that he had a bomb in his backpack.

Police said Puppo fled on a bicycle, pedaling away with $1,447 in cash.
