FPL offers $10,000 reward in tire, battery thefts

Surveillance video shows crooks rolling tires, carrying batteries

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – Florida Power & Light is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and convictions of the people responsible for a series of tire and battery thefts from company trucks.

The thefts, which have been ongoing since January, occurred in Port St. Lucie, Fort Myers, Bonita Springs and Jupiter, FPL spokesman Chris McGrath told Local 10 News.

McGrath said the thieves are believed to be part of a highly organized crime ring targeting specific tires and batteries equipped on FPL trucks.

Surveillance video provided by FPL shows two men rolling stolen tires across the pavement. Another video shows them carrying the batteries.

This is just one of the many Florida Power & Light trucks that had its tires removed.

"When thieves steal from FPL, they are effectively stealing from all of our customers by raising the costs of doing business -- which means everyone eventually pays," McGrath said.

Anyone with information about the thefts is asked to call authorities.
