Man shot while waiting for car battery replacement

Shooter remains at large, police say

MAIMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A man was shot Monday afternoon while waiting for his car battery to be replaced,  police say.

The incident took place about 4 p.m. after three friends had finished having lunch at Philly Grub near Northwest First Avenue and Northwest 54th Street.

The driver's Mercedes-Benz didn't start and AAA was called.

After the AAA representative arrived and began changing the car's battery, two men dressed in dark clothing approached, and one of them pulled out a gun, police said.

A struggle ensued and one of the three friends, who was carrying a gun at the time, got shot. The victim's gun was stolen.

The victim was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he underwent surgery in critical but stable condition.

Police set up a perimeter for hours looking for the men responsible for the shooting, but they were unable to catch them.

The men were last seen running northbound on Northwest First Avenue.
