3 children, 1 adult injured in boat explosion at Black Point Marina

4 suffering from burn injuries

MIAMI – Three children and one adult were injured Sunday morning in a boat explosion at Black Point Marina, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said.

Capt. Doug Keller said the boat did not catch fire, but he said a vapor explosion took place. A vapor explosion is when an ignitable liquid builds up and sparks an explosion.

All four suffered burns.

"What I saw was mostly in the face and in the arms," witness Paul LaFlur said. "The one boy, his hair was a little singed. They were pretty calm getting out of the boat, but when fire-rescue got here and they started working on them, that's when I heard the boy start crying."

Two of the injured children were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center. One of the children and an adult were taken to Kendall Regional Medical Center.
