Employee punches man during attempted robbery at Miami restaurant

Incident reported May 12 at Antigua Guatemala Restaurant

MIAMI – An employee at a Miami restaurant punched a man earlier this month during an attempted robbery at the business, authorities said on Friday.

The incident was reported shortly after 11:15 p.m. May 12 at the Antigua Guatemala Restaurant at 2741 W. Flagler St.

Miami police said the would-be robber entered the restaurant and confronted several employees, implying that he had a gun.

Police said the man went behind the cash register and pushed the register to the floor when the cashier wouldn't comply with his orders to give him money.

Surveillance video appears to show the employee punching the man in the face as the would-be robber runs away.

Police said the culprit left empty-handed in a dark-colored, four-door sedan driven by an accomplice.

Police said employees and patrons at the restaurant chased the man, but he was able to get away, driving toward Northwest 28th Street.

Anyone with information about the attempted robbery is asked to call Miami police at 305-603-6370 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
