Barricaded man shot, killed by Miami-Dade police in Pinecrest

Police say man wanted to 'have a shootout' with cops

PINECREST, Fla. – A man who barricaded himself inside a Pinecrest home was shot and killed by police early Saturday morning, police said.

Miami-Dade police said officers were called to a domestic dispute late Friday night at 12700 SW 82nd Ave.

When officers arrived, a woman told police that her husband had been drinking and barricaded himself in a bedroom.

The wife said her husband, identified as Theodore Brendecke, 82, had a gun and mentioned to her "that he was going to have a shootout with the police."

Police escorted the wife and her adult son to safety and called for the special response team.

When officers attempted to make contact with the barricaded man, shots were fired and the man was struck, police said. He was taken to Jackson South Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

No officers were injured.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting.
