Citgo gas station clerk attacked after chasing man who stole beer, police say

Thieves got away with 12-pack of beer

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A gas station clerk was attacked last month during a theft in northwest Miami-Dade, authorities said in a news release on Friday.

Surveillance video shows a man entering the Citgo at 1201 NW 103rd St. just before 8:45 a.m. May 27 and taking a 12-pack of beer from the cooler.

Police said he walked over to the cash register, but fled the store after the clerk went behind the counter.

Video shows the 22-year-old clerk following the thief out of the store, where he began fighting the man.

An accomplice joined in the fight and the two crooks began punching and kicking the victim, police said.

Video shows the clerk putting up a good fight, but the accomplice was able to snatch the 12-pack and the duo fled the area on foot, authorities said.

"Since a physical altercation did occur over the property, the subject is now wanted for robbery," Miami-Dade police Detective Robin Pinkart said.

The victim suffered minor injuries.

Pinkart said authorities advise the public not to pursue a suspect.

"Certainly not worth it at this point," she said. "It is a 12-pack of beer and he could have been seriously injured in this incident."

Anyone with information about the thieves' identities is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
