Security breach triggers lockdown at Miami International Airport

All-clear given, operations back to normal

MIAMI – A secure area at Miami-International Airport was under lockdown Thursday afternoon after  a security breach took place, Miami-Dade police said.

Someone went into a secure area of the security checkpoint at concourse E, by way of the exit, about 5 p.m., police said.

That person was seen entering the secure area without bags, and a short time later was seen leaving through the same exit with some type of luggage, police said. The person left the area and was not found.

The secure area was locked down as a result of the breach, police said, in order to ensure that the person didn't leave anything behind.

An all-clear was later given.

The situation remains under investigation.
