Woman killed in apparent domestic-related shooting in Miami

Gregory Brown Jr. in custody, police say

MIAMI – A woman has died after a shooting Friday morning in Miami, and her boyfriend has been taken into custody, police said.

Miami police were investigating the shooting at a home on Northwest 38th Street.

The 21-year-old woman, identified as Jackisha Bayard, was shot multiple times, including in the chest. Bayard then ran back into her home and collapsed.

Gregory Brown was in jail on Friday night.

Bayard was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where she was pronounced dead, police said.

"I knew her since we (were) kids. We grew up with each other," Jessica Martinez said. "That's my husband's sister. It's just a tragedy."

Detectives believe the shooting was domestic-related.

Police said the Bayard and her boyfriend, Gregory Brown, Jr., 22, got into an argument outside of her home after he called her and asked her to come outside.

Police said Brown drove away after the shooting and Bayard ran back to her house, where she collapsed.

"Whether or not the shots were fired from inside of a vehicle or outside of a vehicle, that part is still under investigation," Officer Christopher Bess said.

Brown surrendered to authorities later in the day. He faces a first-degree murder charge.

Northwest First Avenue was blocked between Northwest 38th and 39th streets during the investigation.
