Deputies rescue missing woman found swimming in canal

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. – A 67-year-old Boynton Beach woman who was reported missing Monday morning was found swimming in a canal in her community, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Teri Barbera said Ivonne Fernandez walked away from her home in the 9300 block of Aqua Vista Boulevard at about 11:45 a.m.

Barbera said deputies later found Fernandez swimming in the canal. She was safely rescued from the water.

Fernandez has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.
