Coast Guard rescues 5 from capsized boat west of Alligator Reef Light

18-foot boat takes on water off Islamorada and Lower Matecumbe Key

MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – The U.S. Coast Guard rescued five people who were stranded west of Alligator Reef Light Saturday afternoon. 

A Coast Guard crew in a 33-foot special purpose craft crew from Islamorada found the 18-foot boat was taking on water about 2:30 p.m.

The Coast Guard transferred them to the custody of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. None of them were injured.
