4 inmates suffer seizures at Miami-Dade Pre-Trial Detention Center

All inmates released from hospital, authorities say

MIAMI – Authorities were dispatched Tuesday afternoon to the Pre-Trial Detention Center in reference to several inmates who were having seizures, Miami-Dade police said.

Miami Department of Fire-Rescue, Miami police and Miami-Dade police were all sent to the jail at 1321 NW 13th St.

Authorities at the scene told Local 10 News reporter Liane Morejon that the inmates possibly overdosed on a synthetic drug.

Miami-Dade Corrections & Rehabilitation Department spokesman Juan Diasgranados said that four inmates were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital. He said two of the inmates were deemed to be in serious condition and the other two were taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Diasgranados said an inmate inside a cell that was holding 24 men informed officers that several of them were not feeling well.

He said officers called the jail's medical staff and evacuated the cell.

Diasgranados said the four men were the only inmates inside the cell who said they were feeling ill.

He said all four inmates were released from the hospital and returned to the jail shortly before 5:30 p.m.

Miami-Dade police detectives and Miami-Dade corrections officers are investigating the incident.

The jail was placed on lockdown during the incident.
