Man struck with steel pipe, pepper sprayed during robbery in Miami, police say

Miami police seek 2 people involved in attack

MIAMI – A man was beaten over the weekend during a robbery in Miami, authorities said.

The incident was reported Sunday in the area of 1470 SW Sixth St.

Miami police said the victim was walking in the area when two people began attacking him.

The victim was pepper sprayed by one of the robbers while the other person struck him multiple times with a  steel pipe, police said.

Authorities said one of the robbers reached into the victim's pocket and took $150 in cash.

The robbers then ran away, and the victim sought shelter in a nearby convenience store until police arrived, authorities said.

People who live in the area told Local 10 News reporter Michael Seiden that the victim is a known "meth head" who stole a cellphone from two transgender prostitutes.

They claimed that the prostitutes chased the man and beat him until they got their phone back and the money.

Police have not confirmed those details.

Anyone with information about the attack is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
