Woman kicked in chest during robbery outside Walmart in Cooper City

Thief attempts to purchase PlayStation with victim's credit card, deputies say

COOPER CITY, Fla. – A 61-year-old woman was kicked in the chest several times last month during a robbery in Cooper City, authorities said.

The robbery was reported at about 5:30 p.m. July 29 in the parking lot of a Walmart at 4700 S. Flamingo Road.

Broward Sheriff's Office deputies said the victim was placing groceries into the trunk of her car when a group of thieves in a dark-colored Toyota Camry pulled up alongside her.

Deputies said a man with long dreadlocks jumped out, grabbed the victim's purse and jumped back into the back seat of the Camry.

Authorities said the victim ran after the thief and grabbed her purse.

Deputies said the man kicked the woman several times in the chest in order to break her grip on the bag, causing the victim to fall to the pavement.

The victim suffered injuries to her chest and elbows and was treated at Memorial Hospital West in Pembroke Pines.

Authorities said a man was captured on surveillance video about an hour later at a Walmart at 3001 N. State Road 7 in Lauderdale Lakes, attempting to use the victim's credit card to purchase a PlayStation.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Detective Mark Copley at 954-321-4738. Anonymous tips can be made by calling Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. A reward of up to $3,000 is offered for information that leads to an arrest.
