PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – A Pembroke Pines man narrowly avoided being shot after he was ambushed Sunday night in an attempted carjacking.

Pembroke Pines police said Gerald Wynter was sitting in his car at a traffic light in the 7200 block of Pines Boulevard when two armed men approached him and tried to carjack him.

Police said the man stepped on the gas pedal in an attempt to get away when one of the men fired a single shot that struck the back of his car. Wynter wasn't hurt.

Sgt. Darryl Curtiss said the men and their driver got away in a black 2010 Nissan Versa with Florida license plate No. EHKW68.
