Thief gets away with cash from Oakland Park convenience store, deputies say

Robber flees scene in silver, 4-door sedan

OAKLAND PARK, Fla. – Broward Sheriff's Office deputies are searching for a thief who they said got away with cash from a convenience store in Oakland Park.

The robbery was reported in the afternoon of Aug. 28 at a Chevron gas station at 1401 E. Commercial Blvd.

Surveillance video shows the thief, who was wearing a Bob Marley shirt, pulling out a black handgun and demanding cash from a clerk.

Deputies said the robber tried to calm the clerk by saying, "Open the register. I'm not going to shoot you."

The clerk complied with the robbers' orders and put the cash inside his backpack.

Deputies said the thief told the clerk to put his hands on his head and lay facedown on the floor.

The thief leaned over the counter to make sure the clerk had complied with his orders and then left in a silver, four-door sedan, deputies said.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Detective Mark Copley at 954-321-4738 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
