SWAT team called to Coastal Vista South condominium

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – A man diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease held two nurses at gunpoint Monday morning at his Pompano Beach home, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.

The 87-year-old resident of the Coastal Vista South condominium held the nurses at gunpoint during a shift change for his in-home care, BSO spokeswoman Gina Carter told Local 10 News.

Both nurses were eventually released. Carter said they were safe and not harmed.

The SWAT team was called to the condo as negotiators tried to get him to surrender. He eventually complied and was being taken to a hospital for evaluation.
