Publix ground turkey recalled due to possible metal shavings

MIAMI – A recall has been issued for almost 40,000 pounds of Publix ground turkey after metal shavings were discovered in one product.

Prestige Foods, Inc, which packages the food under the Publix brand, says the ground turkey packages in question were produced between Sept. 25 and 26.

Metal shavings were discovered by employees performing sanitation on equipment at a Prestige plant on Sept. 27. The USDA reports metal shavings were discovered in a package on the same day.

No reports of illness have been reported, but shoppers are urged to throw away any recalled packages or return them to the place of purchase.

  • 1.2-lb. White Styrofoam trays with clear plastic film covering packages containing ground turkey labeled “Fit & Active Fresh Ground Turkey With Natural Flavoring” with ink jet labeling on the side of trays displaying the first 4 digits of 7268 and 7269.
  • 1.0-lb. White Styrofoam trays with clear plastic film covering packages containing ground turkey labeled “Weis Markets Fresh Ground Turkey Breast” with ink jet labeling on the side of trays displaying the first 4 digits of 7268 and 7269.
