'Welcome to Key West' sign is back in Florida Keys

The Rotary Club of Key West celebrates return of iconic sign

KEY WEST, Fla. – A couple returned the "Welcome to Key West - Paradise USA" sign on Thursday morning.

They handed it over to employees at the Key West Express docking station in Fort Myers Beach, who loaded it onto a vessel before 8:30 a.m.

The $8,000 gift from The Rotary Club of Key West vanished after Hurricane Irma, but it was back in their hands after the Key West Police Department took it to their meeting Thursday afternoon at 3841 North Roosevelt Boulevard.

There was clapping and cheer. It was a surprise for some. The sign was designed to greet Florida Keys visitors on U.S. 1.
