Rare McDonald's Szechaun sauce scores woman new car

23-year-old snags 1 of 20 sauces in Detroit

A Michigan woman earned herself a free car after trading her coveted McDonald's Szechaun for it.

Rachel Marie, 23, waited for hours at a Detroit McDonald's to get one of its 20 available packets of the sauce, recently featured on the TV show "Rick and Morty."

In the Season 3 premiere of the show, the character Rick says it's his life mission to get some of the sauce, which was made in 1998 to promote the movie "Mulan." Since the episode aired, "Rick and Morty" fans have rallied together to get McDonald's to release it once again.

Fans were disappointed last Saturday when the supply of the sauce didn't meet the demand, but Marie was one of the lucky fans who was able to score a packet.

"When McDonald's said they were bringing it back, I thought it would be cool to get a sauce," she told The Huffington Post.

When Marie took the sauce home, she posted a photo of it to the Facebook group Pin Nation to see what she could get in return.

After several responses, Marie found someone who was willing to trade his 2000 Volkswagon Golf.

"He drove the car over so I know it was running," said Marie. "He was a dedicated fan of the show and already had a second car."

McDonald's says its planning to bring the sauce back on a larger scale sometime this winter.
