Surveillance video shows gunmen open fire at Opa-locka man sitting in car

Joe Gonzalez killed in shooting; his daughter, 1-year-old grandson unharmed

OPA-LOCKA, Fla. – Surveillance video released Monday by the Miami-Dade Police Department shows just how close two gunmen were when they fatally shot a father of seven outside his Opa-locka business earlier this month.

Joe Gonzalez was sitting in a parked car Oct. 18 outside his auto shop at 2155 Opa-locka Blvd. when two men opened fire, killing him.

Gonzalez's daughter and 1-year-old grandson were also inside the car, but they were not hurt.

"It's caused a lot of heartbreak, especially to my mom," said the victim's sister, Geeleen Gonzalez.

The victim's father said he believes someone knows the gunmen.

"These guys, they run around the neighborhood trying to take everything they want and everything they can," father Jose Gonzalez said.

Police said Joe Gonzalez had some sort of encounter with the gunmen prior to the shooting, but police haven't said what led the gunmen to target him.

"We want justice for my brother," Geeleen Gonzalez said. "It didn't have to go this way. It didn't have to be this way. He shouldn't have died this way."
