MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A Miami man who was arrested Monday by Hialeah police on burglary and grand theft charges now faces additional charges in connection with a second burglary in Miami-Dade County, authorities said on Wednesday.

Miami-Dade police said Jorge Pita, 58, burglarized an apartment Aug. 28 in the 8900 block of Northwest Eighth Street.

Police said Pita opened the front door and stole $500 in cash and about $4,000 worth of jewelry from the home.

Police said surveillance cameras captured images of Pita in the area.

According to an arrest report, Pita and another man burglarized another apartment Nov. 8 in 2200 block of West 60th Street in Hialeah.

Police said the victim left her apartment that morning, but was called by her husband, who told her that their security cameras were showing two men burglarizing their home.

Police said the woman returned to the apartment and saw one man walking away from her apartment with her safe in his hand and another still inside.

Police said the burglars were startled by the victim and fled in different directions.

The woman told police that the safe contained about $40,000 in jewelry.

Detectives identified Pita as the burglar who was seen holding the safe.
