Miami-Dade police sergeant helps rescue woman from burning car after crash

Car catches fire after rear-ending police cruiser in North Miami

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. – A woman was rescued from her burning car after it crashed into a Miami-Dade police sergeant's cruiser early Wednesday in North Miami.

Miami-Dade police said the sergeant was stopped at a red light at Biscayne Boulevard and Northeast 135th Street about 3 a.m. when the cruiser was rear-ended by another car.

A Florida Highway Patrol trooper and the sergeant pulled the driver out of the burning car.

The woman, believed to be in her 20s, was taken to Aventura Hospital, but her condition wasn't immediately known.

The sergeant was also taken to a hospital after complaining of some pain.

Police are investigating the crash.
