Hialeah man accused of stealing aluminum door from underneath Big Pine Key home

Surveillance video captures theft, deputies say

BIG PINE KEY, Fla. – A Hialeah man was arrested Thursday after he stole an aluminum door from underneath a house in Big Pine Key, authorities said.

Monroe County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Becky Herrin said the victim called 911 about 3 p.m. Thursday after he found Yoannys Jose Rosa Placeres, 38, in front of his home on Bogie Drive.

The victim said Placeres was driving a truck, pulling a trailer. He said he could clearly see the door, which has been underneath his house.

Herrin said the victim confronted Placeres, who claimed that the door had been in the street.

She said Placeres threw the door into the yard and took off in his truck once he saw the victim pick up his phone to call authorities.

The victim followed Placeres and a police sergeant intercepted Placeres’ vehicle at Avenue B and Palm Drive, Herrin said.

Herrin said Placeres continued to deny having stolen the door, but surveillance video shows him walking onto the victim's property and taking the door.

A check on his name revealed that Placeres had a suspended driver's license, and the temporary tag on his vehicle was expired, Herrin said.

Placeres was arrested on charges of burglary and grand theft. His truck and trailer were towed.
