MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Heartbroken family and friends gathered at a candlelight vigil Sunday night to mourn Alberto Cabrera, who loved ones said was killed by a hit-and-run driver.
"We are using our candles for light. He was our light, and someone took him away," one relative said.
Relatives said Cabrera was walking to work Friday night in the area of Southwest 110th Avenue and 216th Street when he was struck by a car and left badly wounded.
He was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
Relatives said Cabrera worked in construction for years and specialized in plastering.
"He was a hardworking man. He was a family man, and for some reason somebody did us very wrong," a relative said.
Family members said police told them the car involved was an older gray or silver Chevrolet Blazer with front-end damage and a missing Chevy logo.
"Whoever done this to my dad, all I'm asking is to please come forward," the victim’s daughter, Odalys Cabrera, said.
Alberto Cabrera's family is now pleading for justice for a man remembered as a loving father and grandfather.
"We're asking anyone, please, if you have any information on the person or the vehicle to come forward," one relative said.
